FAST 88 Food Allergy/Sensitivity Test

Food Antibody Testing — Important Interpretation Limits

What is This Test?

The FAST 88 listing describes blood testing for food-specific IgE and IgG4 antibodies. IgE can indicate sensitization, but a result alone does not confirm a food allergy. IgG4 does not diagnose delayed food sensitivity and may reflect normal exposure or tolerance. Allergy organizations recommend against IgG testing to diagnose food allergy or intolerance. You can discuss appropriate, history-directed testing with an allergist before ordering; do not eliminate or reintroduce foods based on this panel alone.

Confirm the exact panel, eligibility, preparation, and timing in your Fullscript order and current lab instructions. Kit instructions take priority over this general summary. Do not stop prescribed medicines without your clinician's guidance. Laboratory certification does not establish that every proposed clinical use is validated.

Biomarkers Tested

IgE Antibodies (Sensitization, Not Diagnosis)

  • Dairy proteins
  • Egg proteins
  • Wheat and gluten
  • Tree nuts and peanuts
  • Shellfish and fish
  • Soy proteins

IgG4 Antibodies (Not a Food Sensitivity Diagnosis)

  • Grains and cereals
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Meats and poultry
  • Dairy variations
  • Spices and additives
  • Legumes and beans

88 Foods Tested Include

  • Common allergens (dairy, eggs, wheat, soy, nuts)
  • Proteins (beef, chicken, pork, fish, shellfish)
  • Grains (wheat, corn, oats, rice, barley)
  • Fruits, vegetables, and spices

What Should You Discuss Before Testing?

Allergist Review First

Your reaction history should guide allergy testing, rather than a broad panel used as a general symptom screen.

Dietary Safety

IgG4 results are not a reason to avoid foods. An IgE result alone cannot identify foods that are safe to eat.

Urgent Reactions

Seek emergency care for trouble breathing or a severe reaction; do not wait for a quiz or test result.

Understanding Your Results

Your report lists antibody measurements, not a diagnosis or a list of safe and unsafe foods. Confirm the exact food list and antibody coverage for the panel offered through your patient chart.

What You Can Review:

  • 1Food-specific antibody results and laboratory ranges
  • 2Separate interpretation of IgE and IgG4
  • 3Review alongside your reaction history
  • 4Questions for an allergist, including whether further evaluation is needed
  • 5No automatic elimination or food reintroduction plan

How to Test

Blood collection — confirm serum draw or blood spot kit with your order

  1. 1Confirm the antibody panel and collection method before ordering
  2. 2Follow the supplied instructions for your specific kit
  3. 3For serum testing, arrange collection with a trained phlebotomist
  4. 4The sample is sent to the lab for comprehensive analysis
  5. 5Results are typically available 14-21 days after completing your test
Lab timing varies by test
